UN-DIVIDER
• Year/Term: 5th Year/ Fall 2022
• Use: Shelf/ Cabinet
The design process begins with a series of two-dimensional planes that have limited spatial quality and only serve to divide the space into half. To increase porosity and disrupt the existing structure, slots of varying scales and shapes are introduced to the planes. With these slot joineries, the planes can be combined into three-dimensional space, creating various moments.
The design juxtaposes dividing and un-dividing. The four quadrants in the plan view each have distinct spatial qualities and are connected by the extension of different pieces.
The functions of the shelf/cabinet are open to interpretation and not predefined, allowing users to find their own way to interact with it.
